For this assignment students had to find a partner who was not in their same geographic location. They reached out to friends and family members – many of whom were not “dancers”, so an element of this assignment was not only the choreographic, but also communication. Students had to explain the project and recruit their partner. With so many misunderstandings about “what is dance” and “who gets to dance” – students drew from their evolving understanding and broadening notions of dance to clearly communicate the project and its goals beyond the classroom and campus community.
